The Trailhead Will Open Again This Winter in Crested Butte! Postpones Groundbreaking on New Building to Focus on Raising Remaining Funds for Exhibits |
Dear Friends and Supporters, Yes, you read the headline here correctly! The Trailhead will be opening another "Launch Zone" this winter in Crested Butte in response to the overwhelming need for a place and programming for young children during our long, cold and snowy months. We are looking for a space right now and would like to enlist your help in seeking a building which is accessible, clean, large enough (about 1500 square feet) and preferably close to a bus stop. Trailhead Building Postponed The Board of Directors have also announced today that they have chosen to postpone the ground breaking on the new building which was originally scheduled to start construction at 618 Gothic Avenue in Crested Butte in late September. The building which will host The Trailhead will be delayed for six months in order to allow us more time to raise the remaining funds necessary to build the two-story interactive "Luckey Climber" climbing sculpture which will be our centerpiece. The new date for groundbreaking will be early spring 2010 with a scheduled grand opening for Spring Break 2011. "The Board met last week and came to the conclusion that we need to meet the needs of the community first. That is our priority. Our July space was a tremendous success and we've had countless people ask when we're going to open. We know the kids of the Gunnison Valley need a children's museum now and, considering the economy, we decided it would be best to delay our groundbreaking so we could meet the need now and take more time to raise the rest of the $150,000 necessary for our permanent exhibits," said founder and board president, Kara Miller. "We've had tremendous support for The Trailhead and we want to assure our donors and sponsors that we are staying true to our mission of providing children with interactive educational opportunities in science, music and art. Our focus remains on creating an ideal space with world-class exhibits and we will maintain our high standards for young children, their families, and caregivers." |
